Dig in or bolt down posts: which should you use?

Both fix a post to the ground. The right choice depends on what is already there.

Dig in posts

Dig in posts are set in a hole with concrete. Use them on soil, grass or gravel where you can dig. Based on our post lengths, roughly 600mm of the post sits below ground, so a 1.8m panel uses a 2.4m post. Check the depth with your installer for your ground conditions.

Bolt down posts

Bolt down posts have a welded base plate that is fixed to an existing slab or hard standing with anchor bolts. Use them where you cannot dig, such as on concrete, decking or over services.

Which size post?

Post size follows panel height. Our spec tables list the post size and length for every height. Taller panels need larger section posts, and gates need heavier gate posts.

How many posts?

A straight run needs one more post than panels. Add an extra post for each end and corner, and two posts for every gate. The run length box on each product page works out panels, and the post page lets you add the posts to match.

Before you install

  • Mark out the line and check for pipes and cables before digging
  • Let concrete set fully before fixing panels to dig in posts
