Choosing between V mesh, twin wire and 358

Three panel types cover most sites. The right one depends on what you are protecting and how much risk the fence needs to take.

V mesh

Welded steel panels with horizontal V folds that stiffen the panel and make it harder to climb. The 200 × 50mm aperture keeps the view open. It is the lowest cost option and a common choice for schools, parks, retail sites and yards. Panels are 3000mm wide.

Twin wire 656 and 868

Paired horizontal wires either side of a vertical wire keep the panel flat and rigid. 656 uses 6mm wires and 868 uses 8mm wires, so 868 is the heavier of the two. Both have a 200 × 50mm aperture, and panels are 2500mm wide. Expect to pay about 15 to 30% more than V mesh for 656, and 30 to 45% more for 868.

358 prison mesh

A 76.2 × 12.7mm aperture in 4mm wire. The gaps are too narrow for fingers or toes and too tight for hand cutters to grip. It is the highest security panel we sell and costs roughly 80 to 120% more than V mesh. Panels are 2500mm wide.

A simple way to decide

  • Keeping people out of a yard or play area, with a view through: V mesh
  • A fence that takes regular knocks and must stay flat and rigid: twin wire
  • Anywhere cutting tools or climbing are a real threat: 358
